Aarón Zapico is a Spanish orchestra conductor with an undeniable status as a specialist in baroque and classical repertoire, praised for his bold and innovative artistic proposals. For over two decades, he has definitively contributed to the recovery of Spanish musical heritage and the revitalization of the classical music sector through avant-garde programs, all of them praised for their originality, cohesion, and quality.
His prestige is backed by numerous awards. Thus, he was considered Best Director by the Association of Spanish Early Music Groups in 2019, and virtually his entire discography has received recognition and awards. Among them, highlights include the MIN Award for Best Classical Music Album 2019 for Concerto Zapico Vol. 2, the Melómano de Oro 2024 for La Caramba, or multiple nominations for International Classical Music Awards.
As a guest conductor, Aarón Zapico has recently collaborated with orchestras such as the Granada City Orchestra, the Extremadura Orchestra, the Malaga Philharmonic Orchestra, the Symphony Orchestra of the Principality of Asturias, the Galician Symphony Orchestra, Oviedo Philharmonic, or the RTVE Orchestra. In 2023, he attracted international attention by inaugurating the prestigious Granada International Music and Dance Festival. Among the vocal soloists he has worked with are Ruth Iniesta, Maite Beaumont, Vivica Genaux, Carlos Mena, Christopher Lowrey, Carolyn Sampson, or Hilary Summers. Additionally, he is a frequent guest at important European early music festivals, such as the Bach Festival in Eisenach, the Handel Festival in Halle, or the Rudolfinum in Prague. His work is further complemented by his musical and artistic direction of Forma Antiqva, considered one of Spain’s most influential ensembles.
In 2024, he will return to Madrid’s Teatro Real to conduct Francesca Caccini’s opera La liberazione di Ruggiero dall’isola d’Alcina, in co-production with Teatros del Canal.
