Born in a family without musicians, Aleix Tobias began to show an interest in percussion at the age of two, and at the age of 16 he began studying at the Badalona modern music school with David Xirgu, Alex Ventura, Tito Busquets and Ernest Martínez (percussion).
Attracted by traditional percussion, at the age of 20 he traveled to Senegal, Gambia, Morocco, Egypt, India, Turkey, Brazil, Argentina..., where he studied native rhythms and languages. For a decade, he played with darbukist Misirli Ahmet in his project The Search.
At the age of 24, he started playing with the singer Eliseo Parra and discovered the richness of the traditional music of the Iberian Peninsula. With him, he created the group Coetus. He has also accompanied other singers, such as Eliseo Parra, Carles Dénia, Sílvia Pérez Cruz, Ana Rossi, Juan Quintero, Luna Monti, Judit Neddermann, Rusó Sala, Martirio, Maria del mar Bonet, Marina Rossell, Maria Rodés, Alba Carmona, La Shica or Lídia Pujol, among others.
He has played with groups and musicians such as Carles Benavent, the Jazz Orchestra of Galicia, Marco Mezquida, Las Migas, Amine & Hamza, Companyia Elèctrica Dharma or Fura dels Baus, and has also collaborated, as a musician, composer or producer with different theater and dance companies on more than 70 records.
He currently plays with Marco Mezquida trio, Sílvia Pérez Cruz, Farsa Circus Band, Momi Maiga, Carles Denia, Quartiana or Carles Benavent Grup.
