A native of Jupiter, Florida, Avery Amereau made her professional debut at the Metropolitan Opera in 2016. Avery has gone on to make several performances and role debuts with some of the top international opera houses and orchestras.
Recent operatic engagements have included Olga in Eugene Onegin for Santa Fe Opera, Bradamante in Alcina for Hannover Staatsoper, Eduige in Rodelinda at Opera de Lille and Opera de Lyon, Serena Joy in The Handmaid’s Tale for English National Opera, Dryad in Ariadne for Glyndebourne, Cherubino in Nozze di Figaro for Grand Théâtre de Genève, Ursula in Beatrice et Benedict for Seattle Opera as well as Page in Salome for the Salzburg Festival.
Among her commitments during the 22/23 season Avery makes her house debut at the Royal Opera House Covent Garden, her debut as Marguerite in Damnation de Faust with the Boston Youth Symphony Orchestra conducted by Federico Cortese, concert performances debuts for the Cleveland Orchestra conducted by Franz Welser-Möst and for the Barcelona Symphony conducted by Trevor Pinnock, as well as a recording of Dido & Aeneas with La Nuova Musica for the Pentatone label.
Recent concerts include the world premiere of The Listeners by Caroline Shaw on a US concert tour & Christmas Oratorio conducted by Richard Egarr, both with the Philharmonia Baroque Orchestra, performances with the National Arts Centre Orchestra in Canada, the Orchestra of St Luke’s in New York, the Rhode Island Philharmonic, the ensemble Voices of Ascension (New York), the American Classical Orchestra, the Santa Fe Pro Musica, and her debut with the Early Opera Company at Concertgebouw Amsterdam.
Exceptional in baroque repertoire, whilst at the Juilliard she performed with the school’s historical performance department under such conductors as William Christie and Maasaki Suzuki and sang at the Bachfest Leipzig and the Boston Early Music Festival.
Avery studied at Mannes College of Music and The Juilliard School where she was the recipient of a Kovner Fellowship and the Shoshana Foundation 2017 Richard F Gold Career Grant. In 2020 Avery’s released her debut solo album of Handel arias with the Philharmonia Baroque Orchestra & Nicholas McGegan to huge critical acclaim.
