Blai Gumí Roca was born into a family of musicians in 1997. At the age of 5 he began to take double bass lessons with Oriol Martí and Xavier Puertas. He then studied the Grau Superior at the Conservatori del Bruc in Barcelona. He continued his musical training at the Munich Conservatory, devoting four intense years to improving his career prospects under the inspiring guidance of professors Nabil Shehata, Wies de Boevé and Philipp Stubenrauch. His commitment and dedication earned him a place in the prestigious Bavarian Opera Academy (2017-2019) and, subsequently, in the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra (2019-2020).
Since February 2020, he has been first double bass with the Bavarian State Opera in Munich, the youngest member of the orchestra to achieve this position. Blai Gumí Roca’s musical influence extends to other leading ensembles: he is first double bassist with the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra, the Munich Philharmonic, the Mahler Chamber Orchestra and the Utopia Orchestra.
As a soloist, he has performed with leading orchestras in this country and abroad, including the Andorran National Youth Orchestra, the Bavarian State Opera Chamber Orchestra, the Regensburg Chamber Orchestra and the Bratislava Chamber Orchestra, making him a familiar figure at major venues around the world. Blai Gumí Roca has also won a number of competitions, including the Arjau competition, the Conservatori del Bruc soloist competition, and the Munich Conservatory’s Gasteig competition.
This youthful performer certainly has an even brighter and more inspiring future to look forward to.
