Cor Jove Nacional de Catalunya is an initiative of the Catalan Choir Movement and Young Choirs of Catalonia, which has the support of the Department of Culture of Generalitat de Catalunya, Diputació de Barcelona, L’Ajuntament de Barcelona, and Institut Ramon Llull.
It was born to offer an opportunity to the country's best talents under the direction of renowned national and international conductors, and aims to be a state tool in the style of the national youth choirs of most European countries. In addition, it wants to be an ambassador of Catalan choral excellence beyond our borders. The extensive choral network of Catalonia, with more than 1,000 choirs and more than 30,000 singers, is the best guarantee for this project.
Cor Jove Nacional de Catalunya is made up of 32 singers aged 18 to 28, selected annually after an audition process throughout the country, which are renewed every year in order to offer equal opportunities to new emerging talents. It has a single summer meeting so as not to interfere with the ordinary activity of the choirs, and it closes with the celebration of several concerts throughout the Catalan territory. For a week, the young people live together and work on the repertoire and vocal technique, with the help of conductors and vocal instructors.
The artistic direction changes every year to offer singers different proposals of the highest quality, and this 2022 it has been in charge of Manel Valdivieso. The CJNC closes its 10th edition, an anniversary it has celebrated by collaborating for the first time with the JONC and the Bachcelona Festival, with an extraordinary concert in Torroella de Montgrí as part of the Youth Choir Festival, and with the Musicalische Exequien by Shütz, which the choir performs at L'Auditori after having performed them in Vilanova i la Geltrú, Ciutadella and Pesillà de la Ribera, in summer.
