El Gran Teatro del Mundo’s music is based on a firm belief that a sincere interpretation that is coherent with the aesthetics of the period can awaken the universal emotions embodied in the Baroque repertoire and have an impact on today’s audiences.

The ensemble, under the direction of Julio Caballero Pérez, specializes in French Baroque music, although its programmes range from 17th century German pieces to the classical repertoire.

Its performances are notable for the cohesiveness of the group, which is fundamental in a style that requires the discipline of French Baroque. However, they plan their programmes and performances to highlight the strong personality and individual artistic quality of each of the musicians.

Since its foundation in 2016, the ensemble has played at numerous festivals and venues, including the Utrecht Early Music Festival, the Urbino Musica Antica festival, Riga Early Music Festival, the Ambronay Festival, Festtage Alte Musik Basel, the Centro Botín in Santander, the Centre for Fine Arts in Brussels (Bozar), the International Festival of Sacred Art in Madrid (FIAS) and the Festival Llums d’Antiga in Barcelona.

El Gran Teatro del Mundo has been a beneficiary of the Emerging European Ensembles (EEEmerging) project, which promotes and develops new talent in early music in the European Union as part of the Creative Europe programme. It has also won the Cambridge Early Music Prize in the York Early Music Festival International Young Artists Competition, was selected as a promising ensemble for the 2017 International Young Artist’s Presentation (IYAP) in Antwerp (Belgium), and was awarded the prize for the best performance of a Spanish work in the 2017 Antón García Abril International Chamber Music Competition.

The group’s recordings have been very favourably received by critics. Their first CD, Die Lullisten, was awarded the Diapason d’Or, while their second album, La vida es sueño, recently received a Choc award from the French Classica magazine.
