Born in Geneva from Chilean parents, Emiliano Gonzalez Toro is one of the most prominent tenor of his generation, especially in the Baroque repertoire.
During the last seasons, he performed as Lenia (Eliogabalo by Cavalli) at the Amsterdam Opera, Arnalta (L'incoronazione di Poppea by Monteverdi) at the Zurich Opera and the title-role of Don Quichotte chez la Duchesse (Boismortier) in France and Malte, with Le Concert Spirituel of Hervé Niquet. He sang Bach's Magnifcat and Händel's Dixit Dominus with Le Concert d'Astrée and Emmanuelle Haïm, Bach’s Matthaus Passion in a European tour with Les Musiciens du Louvre and Marc Minkowki, and the role of Mercurio (La concordia de’ pianeti by Caldara) with La Cetra Barockorchester Basel.
In 2018, he co-founded the ensemble I Gemelli, together with soprano Mathilde Etienne, specializing in the Seicento music. The ensemble’s first album, Vespres by Chiara Maria Cozzolani, was released under the Naïve label. The first concerts of the ensemble took place in Neuilly and Geneva. In 2019, I Gemelli made its debut at the Théâtre des Champ-Élysées in Paris, with a concert version of L'Orfeo by Monteverdi, with Emiliano singing the title-role and Thomas Dunford conducting the instrumental ensemble. The ensemble has recently released A room of mirrors with the Gemelli label. Among the tenor’s vast discography, there are records with Les Talens Lyriques, Le Concert Spirituel, Pygmalion, Ensemble Pulcinella, Les Cris de Paris and Arpeggiata.
He is often solicited by several ensembles such as Le Concert Spirituel, Les Musiciens du Louvre, Le Concert d'Astrée, Pygmalion, Cappella Mediterranea, Le Poème Harmonique, La Cetra Barockorchester Basel, Les Talens Lyriques or L’Arpeggiata, as well as orchestras like the Gulbenkian Orchestra, the Orchestre National d'Ile de France or the Orchestre National des Pays de la Loire, among others.
In opera, he performed several roles at the Opéra National du Rhin, the Bayerische Staatsoper in Munich, Théâtre des Champs Elysées in Paris, Opéra de Lille, as well as venues in Amsterdam, Oslo, Lisbon, Washington or New York. Also in the Aix-en-Provence Festival and the Festspielhaus of Baden- Baden.
