GIO Symphonia is a versatile orchestral project which, after a successful first ten years, has entered a new phase under the artistic direction of Francesc Prat, with the aim of moving beyond conventional musical forms to develop unique experiences and new ways of presenting and programming concerts.
Over the years it has worked with prestigious national and international artists, such great names in classical music as Nemanja Radulović, Daniel Müller-Schott, Valentina Lisitsa, Albert Guinovart, Xavier Sabata, Josep Carreras and Ainhoa Arteta. And in crossover projects alongside artists such as Monica Bellucci, Ute Lemper, Andrea Bocelli, La Fura dels Baus, Sílvia Pérez Cruz and Buika.
GIO regularly participates in Catalonia’s main festivals, including the Castell de Peralada Festival, the Cap Roig Festival, the Festival de la Porta Ferrada, the Jardins de Pedralbes Festival, the Festival Grec, the Cruïlla Festival, the Portalblau Festival and the Cerdanya Music Festival. It has also performed in prestigious theatres and auditoriums, including L’Auditori de Barcelona, the Palau de la Música, the Liceu, the Teatro Real in Madrid and the Auditori de Girona.
It has participated in major productions and joint projects such as Maestro, an electronic music show by Grup Flaix, El pop d’una nit d’estiu (Pop for a Summer Night), and the institutional ceremony marking the National Day of Catalonia in 2019, in Plaça Sant Jaume. It has recorded music for audiovisual projects, including soundtracks by renowned composers such as Marc Timón, Arnau Bataller and Ivan Torrent, for the Really Slow Motion company in Los Angeles, and for campaigns advertising “la Caixa” in Catalonia.
As well as performing at concerts, GIO is involved in educational and social projects, supporting charitable campaigns and it aims to become an established, forward-looking part of the Catalan music scene, backed by a team of professionals whose goal is to position GIO Symphonia as one of the most prestigious orchestras in Spain.
