James Ehnes, violinist and violist, has become established as one of the most sought-after musicians on the international scene. Endowed with a rare combination of astonishing virtuosity, serene lyricism and unwavering musicality, Ehnes is a favourite guest of the world’s most celebrated concert halls.
He recently performed with the MET Orchestra at Carnegie Hall, the Gewandhausorchester Leipzig, the San Francisco Symphony, the London Symphony, the NHK Symphony, and the Munich Philharmonic. Throughout the 2023-2024 season, Ehnes continues as Artist in Residence with the National Arts Centre of Canada and Artis-Naples Artistic Partner.
In addition to his concerts, Ehnes maintains a busy recital schedule. He regularly performs at Wigmore Hall, Carnegie Hall, Symphony Center Chicago, Amsterdam Concertgebouw, Ravinia, Montreux, Verbier Festival, Dresden Music Festival and Pâques Festival in Aix. Dedicated to chamber music, he conducts the Ehnes Quartet and is the artistic director of the Seattle Chamber Music Society.
He is a member of the Order of Canada and the Order of Manitoba, a Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada, and an honorary member of the Royal Academy of Music, where he is a visiting professor.
