Born in Lleida, he studied piano with Maria Jesús Crespo at the Conservatorio Superior Municipal de Música de Barcelona, where he graduated in 2002. He later studied with Josep Maria Colom at the University of Alcalá de Henares (Madrid), and between 2004 and 2006 he did postgraduate studies at the Royal College of Music in London with Kevin Kenner, Andrew Ball and Gordon Fergus-Thompson.
At the age of twenty-one, he won the Ricard Viñes International Piano Competition and, later, second prize at the Newport International Competition for Young Pianists (United Kingdom, 2006). Other national awards include the Albacete National Young Performers Competition (2003), the Ciudad de Linares Piano Competition (Jaén, 2003), the Permanent Music Youth Competition of Spain (2002) and the Young Interpreters of Catalonia of Vilafranca del Penedès (2001).
As a soloist, he has performed on several occasions at the Palau de la Música Catalana and L'Auditori, and has been recorded by Catalunya Música and Rádio Clásica. Among his performances with orchestra, the debuts with the Barcelona Symphony Orchestra (OBC) stand out in 2005 and with the BBC National Orchestra of Wales in 2006. Also noteworthy is the re-première of Cant de les estrelles (Songs of the Stars) by Enric Granados at the Palau de la Música Catalana in 2011, together with the Orfeó Català and the Orfeó Lleidatà, coinciding with the centenary of the premiere of the original work, which Granados himself had performed on the same stage in 1911
Jordi Farran also maintains a regular activity as a chamber musician, teacher and accompanist. He has been a teacher at the Isaac Albéniz Conservatory of the Diputació de Girona (2007-2010) and at the Barenboim-Said Music Center in Ramallah, in the West Bank (2011-2016). As an instrumental repertorist, he has worked at the Liceu Conservatory (2007-2014) and at the Solsona International Music Academy (2010-2013). He is currently a repertorist and piano teacher at the Barcelona Municipal Music Conservatory and collaborating pianist with the Barcelona Municipal Band.
