Bassonist Mathis Stier is a musician looking for concert experiences of highest intensity in likewise established as well as unknown paths. In a variety of formations he plays a repertoire from contemporary to improvisation as well as old music, which is presented in his debut album Sentiment at Alpha classics.

After having been awarded prizes as the second prize and audience award at the ARD International Music Competition he played at the Beethovenfest Bonn, in the Kölner Philharmonie as well as the chamber halls of Konzerthaus Berlin and the Elbphilharmonie, with ensembles as the WDR Symphony Orchestra, the ensemble reflektor, the Munich Chamber Orchestra and the Lithuanian Chamber Orchestra.

As a chamber musician Mathis played with the Goldmund Quartet, the Franz Ensemble and the Carousel Ensemble, he was invited to chamber music festivals in France and Spain and plays frequently concerts with the accordionist Julius Schepansky.

Mathis played with orchestras such as the Berliner Philharmonic Orchestra, the Concertgebouw Orchestra, the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra as well as the Mahler Chamber Orchestra, since 2016 he is solo bassoonist of the WDR Symphony Orchestra in Cologne.
