After his successful decade-long tenure as Music Director of the Ensemble Intercontemporain. Matthias Pintscher has been appointed Music Director of the Kansas City Symphony, effective from the 2024-25 season. Pintscher has fostered the performance of a growing repertoire of new works by emerging composers of the 21st century, alongside iconic avant-garde works of the 20th Century and has led the Ensemble in dozens of world premieres, recording CDs and touring with them around the globe – to Asia, North America, and throughout Europe, performing at major festivals and in the most renowned concert halls.
The 2023-24 season is Matthias’ fourth year as Creative Partner at the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra. He will also conduct the Junge Deutsche Philharmonie on tour and, as a guest conductor, Matthias returns to the RAI Milano Musica and the Orchestre de Chambre de Paris, among many others. Conducting highlights have included projects with the Los Angeles, Rotterdam and Berlin Philharmonic Orchestras, and Chicago and Houston Symphony Orchestras, in addition to extensive international touring with the Ensemble Intercontemporain.
As one of today’s foremost composers, Matthias’ works appear frequently on the programmes of major symphony orchestras throughout the world. His third violin concerto, Assonanza, premiered in 2022, as did the orchestral work Neharot. In 2016-17, he was composer-in-residence for the inaugural season of the Elbphilharmonie Hamburg, and from 2014 to 2017, he was artist-in-residence with the Danish National Symphony Orchestra,
Matthias has been professor at the Julliard School since 2014 and his work is published by Bärenreiter.
