A contemporary percussionist with an extensive career, he has been invited to festivals and concert halls such as the Paris Opera, the Cité de la Musique, the Strasbourg Music Festival, the Montpelier Radio France Festival, the Barbican Center in London, the Auditorio Teresa Carreño de Caracas, the Darwin Guitar Festival, the Next Wave Festival in Brooklyn, the Helsinki Festival and the Parco de la Música in Rome. He has played with orchestras such as the Orquestra Ciutat de Barcelona, the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra as well as with contemporary music ensembles such as Ictus, Ictus Piano and Percussion Quartet, Trio Allures, Duo Contemporain, among others.
Formed in Valencia, Madrid, Brussels and Rotterdam, he won the Extraordinary End of Career Award at the Madrid Conservatory. He obtained distinctions such as the Special Percussion Prize in the Gaudeamus Competition in Holland, the 2nd prize in the Aspen Nakamichi Competition. In 2016, he was awarded the Cultural Researchers and Creators Award of the BBVA Foundation, for the promotion of the Estudios de Concierto para Marimba collection.
He made several collaborations as a soloist, in which he released works susch as Concerto for Marimba and 15 instruments by David del Puerto, Campos Magnéticos by Cesar Camarero, Night y Chalan by Mauricio Sotelo and the Concerto for percussion by Juan Guinjoan. He has also performed with several dance companies, including ROSAS by choreographer Anne Teresa de Keersmaeker.
He stands out for having founded Drumming Grupo de Percussão, which has become one of the main percussion groups in the world, expanding in a unique way the interactions between music and other forms of art.
Having been a professor at the conservatories of Rotterdam and Brussels, he currently develops an intense teaching activity at the Escuela Superior de Música de Cataluña, the Escuela Superior de Música do Porto and the Universidad de Aveiro. His career as a professor and lecturer includes participation in the Summer Course in Darmstadt, the Instrumenta de Oaxaca, the International Summer Course in Brasilia, as well as in other universities in Argentina, South Africa, the United States, the United Kingdom and Australia.
