Violinist and drummer Mohamed Soulimane was born in Chefchaouen, Morocco. He completed his advanced musical studies at the conservatories of Chefchaouen, Tetouan and Rabat, where he formed part of Andalusian and traditional Arabic music groups and performed in various cities around the country. In the late 1990s Soulimane moved to Catalonia, where he worked intensely and explored a wide range of musical styles, including Raï, flamenco, Gnawa, hip-hop, Sephardic, Moroccan and oriental music, meditation music, and children’s music.
He is the founder and conductor of the Barcelona Arabic Orchestra and has collaborated with a number of notable musicians and groups, including Chab Samir, De Cajón, Abdeljalil Kodssi, 08001, Rosa Zaragoza, Prana, Kulchi Atei, Shirai, Lluís Pinyot, Soleá Morente and La Bien Querida, among others. Nearly all of these collaborations resulted in the production of various musical recordings.
As a solo violinist, Soulimane has won four first prizes at different festivals throughout the Arab world.
He has composed soundtracks for films, documentaries and children’s programmes.
