Pablo Carrascosa Llopis (Valencia, 1979) is a versatile composer who approaches music from abstraction and with a broad perspective ranging from new creation to electronic and techno, with a marked influence of elements from extreme metal. As an architect by training, the composer places special importance on form in his works, endowing them with great clarity and strength. Rhythm, also understood from an architectural point of view, plays a fundamental role in Carrascosa’s work.
During the 2019/20 season, he was a guest composer at L’Auditori in Barcelona, which resulted in the commission and premiere of “X-Y,” an orchestral work for the OBC (Barcelona Symphony Orchestra and National Orchestra of Catalonia), and “WHITE,” for two ensembles and electronics. Carrascosa is also a live electronic music performer, both in the realm of new creation and in the world of techno, where he explores the genre’s limits. He has composed soundtracks and music for dance, winning awards at the Grec Festival and the Jerry Goldsmith Awards.
He is the artistic director of CrossingLines Ensemble, where he imparts a highly personal view on the group’s repertoire and aesthetics. Applying the same ideals as in his compositions, he weaves a strong narrative and structural thread into the formation’s projects, creating programs that are much deeper than the sum of their parts. This uniqueness has made this ensemble a prominent presence on national and international stages, such as at L’Auditori in Barcelona.
Additionally, he is a professor in the composition department at the Taller de Músics Escola Superior d’Estudis Musicals, and he has had the opportunity to develop the project “Composers Enter the Classroom,” a collaboration between the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona and the Educative Service of L’Auditori since 2015. Soon, he will be part of the “Labyrinth of Dreams” project, promoted by the Liceu Conservatory and the Gran Teatre del Liceu.
Carrascosa studied composition at the ESMUC (Escola Superior de Música de Catalunya) and is an architect from the ETSAV (Escuela Técnica Superior de Arquitectura del Vallés -UPC).
