He began playing music in his town’s band, and this interest in music led him to study the horn and musicology at the Superior Conservatory of Music in Murcia. He later specialized in historical horns with Javier Bonet at the Catalonia College of Music (ESMUC).
He has always combined performance and research. He completed a Master’s Degree in Performance of Early Music at the ESMUC – Autonomous University of Barcelona. Together with clarinetist Oriol Garcia, he presented a musical and research project directed by Dr. Josep Borràs that focused on the profession of musicians, concert activity and the construction of woodwind instruments in late 18th century Barcelona.
In addition, he holds a doctorate in Musicology from the UAB (Autonomous University of Barcelona), where he defended his thesis, titled El quartet de trompes de l’Orquestra Pau Casals (1920-1937) (The Horn Quartet of the Orquestra Pau Casals), directed by Dr. Joaquim Rabaseda. This work documents Casals’ concern for the horn players in his orchestra and explores the performing practices and instruments used by active musicians in Barcelona before the Spanish Civil War.
As a performer, Reche has focused mainly in two areas: early music (using period instruments) and contemporary music. He has collaborated with many ensembles, such as Vespres d’Arnadí, Catalan Baroque Orchestra, Acadèmia 1750, Música Antiga de Girona, Montsalvat Orchestra, Royal Chamber Opera Company (Catalonia), Forma Antiqva, Los Músicos de Su Alteza, Nereydas (Spain), Les Arts Florissants, Les Musiciens du Louvre, Insula Orchestra, Le Cercle de l’Harmonie, Ensemble Matheus, La Chapelle Rhénane (France), Lautten Compagney, Kölner Akademie, Bremer Barockorchester, La Festa Musicale (Germany), Les Musiciens du Prince (Monaco), La Chambre du Roi, The Northern Consort (Netherlands), Capricornus Consort Basel, Capriccio Barockorchester, Harlequin Philosophe, Camerata Rousseau (Switzerland), Capella Cracoviensis (Poland) and MusicAeterna (Russia).
In contemporary music, he has worked with the ensemble bcn216 in the premieres of Piturrino fa de músic (Piturrino Performs as a Musician), by Carles Santos, and the opera LByron, by Agustí Charles, among others.
He has also been invited by the Quintet Frontela, Granollers Chamber Orchestra, Terrassa 48 Orchestra, Vallès Symphony Orchestra, Barcelona Municipal Band and the Barcelona Symphony Orchestra and National Orchestra of Catalonia.
His interests as a researcher span from the 18th to the 20th centuries, focusing on the profession of musicians and their instruments, particularly the horn, as well as its repertoires, performance practices and historical players, especially in the city of Barcelona.
He has led outreach initiatives for audiences of all ages including courses, lectures and workshops. He is passionate about building instruments and using technology to facilitate access to musical experiences. He has coordinated, designed and developed different educational, pedagogical and training projects for the major institutions in the country. These include the pedagogical direction of the educational concerts Out of the [Cage] for L’Auditori de Barcelona and Bandàstic, by the Barcelona Municipal Band, in addition to the musicological advicing for the 2024 Concert de Sant Esteve, at the Palau de la Música Catalana.
