Born in Cocentaina (Alicante), Rafa Agulló Albors began his musical studies with the saxophone at the Music School of the Music Union of Cocentaina. He later continued his studies at the Professional Conservatory of Ontinyent and the Superior Conservatory of Alicante. He expanded his saxophone education with internationally renowned masters such as Daniel Kientzy, Manuel Miján, Claude Delangle, Pedro Iturralde, Eric Devallon, Marie Bernardette, Arno Bornkamp or Nobuya Sugawa, among others. In 2000 he began to study band conducting at the Regional School of the Vall d’Albaida under the instruction of professors José Rafael Pascual Vilaplana, Ramón García i Soler and José Vicente Asensi Seba. Later, he completed his higher band conducting studies in 2006 at the European Institute of Music (Trento, Italy) under the guidance of teachers Jan Cober, Felix Hauswirth, Franco Cesarini and Carlo Pirola. He has attended advanced band conducting courses led by renowned masters such as Henrie Adams, Eugene Corporon, Jan Van der Roost, Johan de Meij, Alex Schillings and Douglas Bostock. Agulló Albors also studied musical composition at the Superior Conservatory of Music in Vigo and orchestra conducting at the Superior Conservatory of Music in A Coruña. Recently, he has completed a master’s degree in jazz at the Studio School of Santiago de Compostela.
He has worked as a teacher at various schools in the Valencian Community and the Professional School of Viana do Castelo (Portugal). He also was the conductor of the Ontinyent Musical Group, the Busot Musical Union and the Youth Band of the Musical Union of Muro.
He is regularly invited to collaborate with many professional ensembles in Spain (such as the Municipal Band of A Coruña, the Bilbao Symphony Orchestra, the Municipal Band of Vitoria, the Municipal Band of Ourense, the Municipal Band of Castelló de la Plana, the Municipal Band of Oviedo, the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra of Galicia and the Gran Canaria Wind Orchestra). He also works with international ensembles (such as the Portuguese Symphony Orchestra, the Conservatory Symphony Orchestra of Porto, the Wind Orchestra of the National Conservatory of Lisbon, the Orchestra of the North of Portugal, the Rundfunk-Blasorchester of Leipzig and the Naval Band of the Royal Netherlands Navy).
Agulló Albors is currently the conductor of the band and director of the Municipal School of Music in Silleda (Pontevedra), he regularly organizes meetings for young musicians in Portugal and is a conducting teacher at the Musical Youth School in the Vall d’Albaida (Valencia) and in the European Academy of Band Management (Portugal). He is also the conductor of the Music Band of Pontevedra and assistant conductor of the Barcelona Municipal Band.
