Rafael Muñoz studied in Valencia with M. Morellà and F. Salanova at the city’s conservatories, and with K. Becker in Hannover and, later, he was awarded a scholarship to the Karajan Academy of the Berlin Philharmoniker with J. Kelly and D. Wollenweber as his mentors.
With the Philharmonic Orchestra he got to work with conductors such as Sir S. Rattle, C. Abbado, Z. Mehta, K. Petrenko, I. Fischer, R. Goebel and G. Dudamel, playing at the main European festivals and making several recordings.
After contracts with the Orquestra de la Comunitat Valenciana and the Staatsoper in Berlin, in 2016 he won the position of oboist and English horn at the Deutsche Oper Berlin.
His artistic career has mainly been spent as an oboist and English horn player in Germany, where he has collaborated with orchestras such as the Gewandhaus Orchestra in Leipzig, the German Symphony Orchestra in Berlin, the Staatskapelle in Dresden, the Konzerthaus Orchestra in Berlin, and the Hessische Rundfunk in Frankfurt. He has been a member of Musica Assoluta in Hannover and has collaborated with ensembles such as UnitedBerlin and Moonwinds.
Starting in the 2022-23 season, he is the solo oboe of the Barcelona Symphony Orchestra.
