Music and dance form an artistic symbiosis, where sincerity and simplicity become a driver for catharsis. The Barcelona Symphonic Band presents various works with notes based on dance rhythms. Xavier Pagès-Corella (Sant Pere de Ribes, 1971) develops in Variacions Grotesques various dance forms based on a harmonic progression taken from a comic opera that he wrote himself, entitled Bruna de nit. Agustí Borgunyó (Sabadell, 1894 – Barcelona, 1967) wrote L’Aplec in New York as a tribute to a dance festival in Catalonia. The English composers Benjamin Britten (1913-1976) and Lennox Berkeley (1913-1989) were inspired by different Catalan dances to write the suite Mont Juic. The Ballets of Miquel Asins Arbó (Barcelona, 1916 – Valencia, 1996) comment on four dance forms – the mazurka, the habanera, the foxtrot and the march – based on four popular Valencian melodies. With Puigsoliu, Joaquim Serra i Corominas (Peralada, 1907 – Barcelona, 1957) pays tribute to descriptive music through traditional rhythms.
