FAULT MANUAL: witch love (1925 version). By permission of J. and W Chester Ltd. 24'
Witchcraft and mystery, gypsies muttering spells, dances around the fire. witch love is a story of passion that crosses the border of the afterlife, a ballet-pantomime starring a young couple, Candelas and Carmelo, and a former lover of the girl who manifests in the form of a specter and the torment. Spells, charms and traditional Andalusian music make this work very special. The "Danza ritual del fuego" or "Canción del fuego fatuo" have become icons of 20th century music.
When we are in love, the heart quickens, the heartbeat betrays us. Andrés Valero-Castells proposes a caridiophony a sound experience based on the rhythm of this organ, in the first and third movements literally. The second, more poetic, begins with a quote from García Lorca, and the last closes the work with a song by the rock musician Luis Campuzano “Sherpa”. The concert is completed with Smetana fanfare, by Karel Husa, on the centenary of this Czech composer's birth.
