Barcelona Symphony Orchestra
Ludovic Morlot, conductor
The piece Los incensarios, commissioned and premiered in 2018 by the National Orchestra and Choir of Spain, reflects the aesthetic concern of José Río-Pareja and his interest in sound exploration, within the framework of a work that represents a look back: the musical memory of the composer's childhood, marked by the vocal music of the censers of Loja (Granada). During Easter, they carry out movements accompanied by satires, primitive arrows whose origin is lost in the history of Judeo-Christian religious syncretism.
All this brings melodic material and a wealth of timbral ideas to the work of this Barcelona native with roots in Loja, determined by the analogies between light and sound phenomena. There is also a crossroads, where popular and academic traditions meet with personal research on different parameters of sound in a deeply visual and contemplative atmosphere. A score for a large orchestra, which allows you to appreciate the craft of a composer with an important career, currently a teacher at the Escola Superior de Música de Catalunya (ESMUC).
