PROGRAM
GUSTAV MAHLER: Symphony no. 4 in G (1892-1900; rev. 1901-1910) 54′
At the Fourth symphony, Gustav Mahler takes a creative turn and places the timbral richness of the orchestra at the service of a luminous, nostalgic and beatific vision of heaven, expressed by a child. The work culminates in the last movement with a lied on a popular poem from From Knaben Wunderhorn (The Magic Horn of Youth) after a long third movement of tragic depth. It is a symphonic piece of intimate spirituality, misunderstood in its time, which reveals the inexhaustible imagination of a composer who marked the history of this genre.
