Program
The last great work by Elgar is an intense and exciting concerto written by a genius in full creative maturity. Copland won over the public first with ballet music and later with his symphonic works. As Bernstein said: “the Third Symphony is an American monument, like the Lincoln Memorial or the obelisk in Washington”.Ten years ago, Daniel Müller Schott bought a musical gem: a Goffriller cello (like that played by Pau Casals) built in 1727, and the first work he performed with it was this Elgar concerto. Awards and acclaim rained on him from all sides. Since then he hasn’t been separated from his instrument and continues to take his unique sound all around the world. Aaron Copland achieved success thanks to his ballet music, with titles such as Billy the Kid, Rodeo and El Salón Mexico, but his synthesis of romantic music and American folk and jazz also took on a symphonic form: the Third Symphony includes performances of his most interpreted work, Fanfare for the Common Man.
