Repertoire
MOZART: Symphony No. 38 in D major (the Prague Symphony), K. 504
FALLA: “El Amor Brujo” (Love, the Magician), a ballet in one act (1925)
Conductor Carlos Checa will lead the Jove Orquestra Simfònica de Barcelona in its performance of two iconic works from its repertoire: first, Mozart’s Symphony No. 38 (the Prague Symphony), an intimate and reflective symphony with a constant rhythm and an intense expression that shows the depth of Mozart’s thinking; followed by the 1925 version of “El Amor Brujo” (Love, the Magician), a ballet in one act that relates the love story between Candela and Carmelo. This work by composer Manuel de Falla is a fine example of folklore intermingled with classical forms and structures and is considered a masterpiece.
The concert, which is part of the Jove Orquestra Simfònica de Barcelona’s 4th Season (18/19), is a charitable concert whose entire box office takings will be donated to the Mans a les Mans Foundation, a non-profit making foundation set up in 2004 to provide opportunities to children and young people at social risk in the neighbourhoods of Marina de Port and La Marina del Prat Vermell (in the district of Sants-Montjuïc) through education and training.
