With Knknighgh (pronounced as knife), North American composer and ‎trumpeter Nate Wooley introduces a radical new take on the classic free jazz quartet ‎tradition, inspired by the minimalist poems of Aram Saroyan. Using a simple 13 bar theme, ‎Wooley wrote short fragmentary loop compositions that could be triggered by a simple ‎auditory cue by anyone in the band, making this a form of composition by committee. This ‎forces the players out of their comfort zones and gives the musical narrative in its own ‎dialectic. Nate Wooley, considered to be one of the most original and experimental ‎contemporary jazz trumpeters there is, leads a quartet made up of some of the most ‎outstanding improvisers of the New York new music scene.‎
