Program
This time, Pablo González compares the style of the second symphonies of these two famous composers: Beethoven versus Brahms. The second session in which OBC conductor Pablo González compares the style of the two first symphonies of Ludwig van Beethoven and Johannes Brahms. In Beethoven’s Second Symphony, dating from 1802, we see an incipient maturity in the romantic style of this German composer heralding his later successes, with his Third Symphony “Eroica” on the horizon. Brahms, however, wrote his Second Symphony straight after finishing his First and having overcome his fear of being compared with this earlier genius. This work is, therefore, less gloomy, less direct and free, revealing the composer’s introspective nature without this preventing a truly romantic lyricism and a highly classic work from unfolding.
