Program
Händel is one of the great opera composers of all time, with a perfect command of dynamism and theatrical rhythm (as well as his operas, his oratorios are another clear example of this). Amadigi di Gaula is based on the Spanish chivalric novel of the same name and it was a huge success from the moment it was premiered. On the one hand, it features two lovers (Princess Oriana and the hero Amadigi) and, on the other, two characters consumed with envy (Melissa and Dardano). To give a brief summary, the two lovers find themselves subjected to a rollercoaster of passions and torments until, finally, they discover the joys of requited love. The opera has a superb cast and accompanying musicians, with Núria Rial and Xavier Sabata, Anna Devin and Katarina Bradić, Rafael Quirant and Vespres d’Arnadí, and conductor Dani Espasa.
