The history of jazz is replete with generational exchanges, of masters who welcome newcomers, who are nourished by the energy of new musicians just starting out. Bassist Avishai Cohen was a promising young man who was welcomed into bands by pianists such as Danilo Pérez and, especially, Chick Corea. His work with the late Corea spread the name throughout the world of this double bass player with a passion for Mediterranean and Latin music. His music was infused with rhythm and melody. Now in his fifties, the Israeli is now the master of passing on the baton to musicians such as the very young drummer Roni Kaspi, whom he got to know on social media during pandemic lockdowns. As a trio, they bring virtuosic and energetic music to life.
