Programme
The BMB accompanies the multifaceted Pilar Jurado on an exuberant journey through the most famous opera and zarzuela numbers of all time.
The singer will perform the famous arias ‘Je veux vivre’ (Juliet’s Waltz) from Charles Gounod’s opera Roméo et Juliette and the memorable ‘Canción de Paloma’ (Paloma’s Song) from El barberillo de Lavapiés (The Little Barber of Lavapiés) by Francisco Asenjo Barbieri.
She will also conduct instrumental music, with overtures, preludes and interludes from The Marriage of Figaro by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Cavalleria rusticana (Rustic Chivalry) by Pietro Mascagni, La Traviata by Giuseppe Verdi, William Tell by Gioachino Rossini, El tambor de granaderos (The Grenadiers’ Drum) by Ruperto Chapí and La boda de Luis Alonso (The Wedding of Luis Alonso) by Gerónimo Giménez. Also featuring will be ‘Danza española’ (Spanish Dance) No. 1 from La vida breve (Life is Short) by Manuel de Falla and Jurado’s own Fantasia lírica (Lyrical Fantasy) for Symphonic Band, which she will premiere in this concert.
