Program
As part of the festival that L’Auditori will be dedicating to Beethoven to mark the 250th anniversary of his birth, the Symphony Band brings us a bold yet attractive proposal: the performance of the entire musical work that the genius from Bonn composed for the stage production of Egmont, a play written by Goethe. The work premiered in 1810 in Vienna and praise was showered in equal measures on both the text, which extolled the struggle for freedom and the character’s moral integrity, and the music, which succeeded in conveying the heroic nature of the story. The fight against oppression and the desire for freedom flow through the entire score and, despite the dramatic ending, the notes leave a glimmer of hope as they soar skyward.
