Programme
Hindemith, Gerhard and Ligeti. Three great but contrasting avant-garde composers who are respectful of the past but share a desire to create music that breaks fresh ground. The Azahar Ensemble will be presenting three works by the German Hindemith, the Catalan Gerhard and the Hungarian Ligeti, written between 1922 and 1968. The transformation of the European music scene over 46 years, interspersed with wartime conflicts, did not prevent them developing differing aesthetic approaches, which complement each other despite their creators’ revolutionary criteria.
