Program
Cécile McLorin has one of those voices that you don’t hear very often.
Winner of the prestigious Thelonious Monk International Jazz Competition and with two Grammy awards under her belt for best vocal jazz album, her singing has been compared to that of the legendary Bessie Smith and Sarah Vaughan. McLorin has created her own style and built up a repertoire based on the intensive study of the history of North American folk music, from which she has extracted an immense reservoir of experiences and feelings. Her audacious voice brings a fresh and intrepid approach to this traditional form of music, going beyond the conventional. McLorin presents The Window at L’Auditori, a meditative cycle of her own songs and covers of songs by Richard Rodgers, Stephen Sondheim and Stevie Wonder that speak to us of the changing nature of love. An intimate performance in which she is accompanied by Sullivan Fortner, her pianist of choice.
