Programme
THE SESSIONS FOR THIS CONCERT WILL BE MORE RELAXED. RULES REGARDING NOISE AND MOVEMENT IN THE CONCERT HALL WILL BE MORE RELAXED THAN USUAL, AND SOME MINOR ADJUSTMENTS MAY ALSO BE MADE TO THE LIGHTING, SOUND, ETC. FOR THE WELLBEING OF ALL KINDS OF PUBLIC. THESE TYPES OF SESSIONS ARE FOR INDIVIDUALS AND FAMILIES WHO PREFER A MORE CASUAL ATMOSPHERE, THEREBY REDUCING ANXIETY LEVELS AND MAKING THE EXPERIENCE BETTER FOR EVERYONE (E.G. FAMILIES WITH SMALL CHILDREN, PEOPLE WITH ALZHEIMER’S, PEOPLE WITH AUTISM, ETC.).
An exceptional concert by the Band brings us closer to the world of jazz and how it has interacted with classical music. The Jazz Suite by Manfred Schneider opens a programme for all audiences and tastes, featuring, of course, the work of Leonard Bernstein, who bridged these two worlds with his music and work as a broadcaster. The concert features three scenes from his musical On the Town.
In a very different context, Dmitri Shostakovich’s incursion into jazz was already evident in Tahiti Trot, written in 1927. The programme could not fail to include the names of George Gershwin and clarinettist Benny Goodman, with a selection from the opera Porgy and Bess by the former, and a tribute to the latter in Benny Goodman Memories.
