Programme
The season gets off to an exciting start with a programme of works that dialogue clearly with tradition. The first will be the dynamic and vibrant Finish Line by Cindy McTee, composed in 2006, followed by the Concerto for Percussion and Orchestra by the composer and teacher Joseph Schwantner. This is a more extensive piece, written to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the New York Philharmonic, which has also been heard on such important stages as the home of the Los Angeles Philharmonic. The virtuoso prominence of percussion allows the tracing of a sonorous and rhythmic kaleidoscope that will captivate the listener. This will be followed by “Geschwindmarsch by Beethoven”, from the Symphonia Serena that Paul Hindemith created in 1946. The reference to one of the leading figures in history will be repeated with Extreme Beethoven by Johan de Meij, which reveals a series of variations —or metamorphoses— on a theme by the genius from Bonn.
