pROGRAMME
Composed for the eponymous wind ensemble born from the BMB, Salvador Brotons’ Reed Quintet begins with evocations of imaginary landscapes, evolving into furious contrapuntal solos that intertwine and engage in melodic conversation. Maurice Ravel’s Le Tombeau de Couperin, in its adaptation for wind quintet, enhances the chromaticism of a work that traverses different musical epochs.
Originally conceived as a homage to Baroque music, each of the six movements is dedicated to the memory of a friend lost in World War I. In the wake of such tumult, Eduard Toldrà’s Vistes al mar, crafted as a string quartet, captures the spontaneity of natural elements reflected in the endless fluctuations of Impressionism.
