Programme
Brahms’s three string quartets, accompanied by works that reflect the way past and the present interact, make up the first major recording project of the Cosmos Quartet, founded in Barcelona in 2014. This concert takes a similar idea, centred on Brahms’s Quartet No. 2, an outstanding example of lyricism and the economical use of resources through carefully devised contrapuntal solutions that reflect a clear admiration for Johann Sebastian Bach. The programme also includes the evocative Quartet, Op. 28, by Anton Webern, the last chamber piece written by the German composer. The quartet uses the twelve-tone technique based on the BACH motif in classical German notation. The programme opens with algo sobre un cuerpo, a piece written in 2017 by rising Catalan composer Helena Cánovas (1994), inviting us to reflect on the concept of sound gesture.
