Programme
The Danish String Quartet’s proposal takes us to the limits of the conventional repertoire for string quartet. The concert will open with the music by the American composer, violinist and singer Caroline Shaw (1982), one of a new generation of creators who remain in touch with tradition but produce extraordinarily original and ingenious scores. At the age of thirty she was the youngest person to win the prestigious Pulitzer Prize for Music. Her knowledge of string instruments is reflected in Entr’acte, written in 2011, a work inspired by Haydn’s Quartet No. 2, Op. 77. Then, the Danish String Quartet will take us on a journey through the landscapes of their native Scandinavia, with a selection of traditional tunes in sophisticated arrangements for this classical format, a corpus that has been part of the group’s DNA for at least a decade.
