ProgramME
The renowned Barcelona-born singer David Alegret is one of today’s finest lyrical-light tenors. With an established career in opera and oratorio, Alegret regularly tackles the recital format, with a distinct predilection for Catalan Lied. In this concert he will be accompanied by one of Spain’s leading repertoire pianists, Rubén Fernández Aguirre, with whom he works on a regular basis. They take us on a journey through time and Catalan poetry (Josep Carner, Tomàs Garcés, Josep Maria de Sagarra and many others), from Noucentisme to the present day, performing songs by renowned composers including Eduard Toldrà, Ricard Lamote de Grignon and Xavier Montsalvatge, and composers who are rarely programmed today, such as Francesc Pujol, Joan Llongueras, Joaquín Zamacois and Joaquim Serra. This rediscovery of Catalan musical heritage is completed with the premiere of the cycle Illa dels lliris vermells (The Island of Red Lilies) by Hèctor Parra (1976), based on poems by the influential Barcelona writer Mercè Rodoreda.
