Chopin’s collection of Twenty-four Preludes, Op. 28 is a kaleidoscope in sound, showcasing the Polish composer’s mastery of the piano. Each miniature expresses an emotion or feeling, exploiting the evocative power of conciseness and the magic of each moment. Norwegian pianist Leif Ove Andsnes, one of the most brilliant, personal and elegant performers of his generation, will also perform the youthful Piano Sonata, Op. 7 by Grieg, a composer known as “the Chopin of the North”, in whose work he is a specialist. Andsnes continues to pay tribute to his geographical origins and cultural identity with Sonata No. 29, Op. 129 by Norwegian composer and pianist Geirr Tveitt, a central figure in 20th century Norwegian music, whom Andsnes himself calls “the Norwegian Bartók”. This is the only surviving piano sonata by Tveitt. Its nickname “Etere” comes from the ethereal melody that constitutes its second theme. An original score that will leave no one unmoved.
