The Gerhards, one of Catalonia’s leading string quartets, premiere a long piece by Ramon Humet, performed in the dark. The instrumentalists’ have enjoyed a fruitful relationship with the composer, having performed and recorded a number of his works previously.
In this deeply meditative work, the composer explores the sound properties of stringed instruments alongside those of quartz crystal singing bowls, played by Sílvia Vidal. The tuning of both the strings and the bowls (which are tuned by varying the volume of water in them) is based on just intonation, generating great harmonic resonances.
The concert promises to be a contemplative experience, allowing the audience to transcend commonplace reality and enter something akin to a spiritual state.
