Program
Vanessa Porter to give a striking performance of contemporary percussion.Percussion is everywhere: in the body, the voice, in metal and wood, in electronic and traditional instruments. Vanessa Porter finds it in expression and virtuosity, in technique and communication with the public, through a performance that is both uncomfortable and absorbing at the same time. The performer, who was chosen as a Rising Star by ECHO (European Concert Hall Organisation), will open a door to this world with her own creation, inviting the audience to embark on a dreamlike journey where dialogue is vital.
When Georges Aperghis heard Porter’s interpretation of his work Le corps à corps, he contacted her, and on being chosen as a Rising Star, she nominated him for a commissioned premiere. The Messenger, the work of the renowned Greek composer, incorporates gestural, narrative and stage elements, and is dedicated to the percussionist.
The programme will be completed by two works from established composers whose pieces require the whole body: Globokar’s already classic Corporel and Lang’s The Anvil Chorus, which requires the feet as well as hands. In addition to these, there will also be two works for vibraphone written by up-and-coming composers Emil Kuyumcuyan and Alexander ‘Sandi’ Kuhn.
