pROGRAMME
In 1783, when Mozart premiered his Great Mass in C minor, K. 427, in Salzburg, his enmity towards the city’s despotic Prince-Archbishop, Hieronymus von Colloredo, was more than evident. In fact, the composer had the status of a “runaway vassal”, as Colloredo had refused to sign his letter of resignation. One of the most important pages of Western sacred music was presented to the world against this hostile backdrop, with Constanze Weber, who he had recently married, as soprano soloist. The score draws on the best of the legacy of Bach and Handel and projects it into the future of Romanticism. Jordi Savall will tackle this masterpiece by a genius of the symphonic-choral repertoire with top-class soloists and the joint expertise of La Capella Nacional de Catalunya and Le Concert des Nations.
