Programme
Although Vienna was the focal point of the classical style, there were other very active musical centres between 1775 and 1810, such as London and Paris. This compositional language also developed in southern Europe with Barcelona composer Carles Baguer (1768-1808) being a prime example. The organist in the cathedral of his native city, he wrote in a wide variety of genres: symphony, concerto, opera, oratorio, chamber music, keyboard works and religious music. The distinguished Baroque orchestra Vespres d’Arnadí, conducted by Dani Espasa, invites us to listen to the modern premiere of his oratorio El regreso del hijo pródigo (The Return of the Prodigal Son), which Baguer wrote in 1807 as a commission from the church of San Felipe Neri.
