Programme
More and more female performers are sweeping aside the historical stereotype of the male brass instrument player. The talent, technical skill and musicality of English trumpeter Matilda Lloyd have led to a meteoric career. Chosen as a Rising Star by the ECHO (European Concert Hall Organisation), together with pianist Jonathan Ware, she offers us an eclectic programme in which Spanish music is represented in the arrangement of the nostalgic “Quejas, o la maja y el ruiseñor” from the Goyescas suite by Granados and Falla’s famous Siete canciones populares españolas. Légende by the Romanian George Enescu, an original composition for trumpet and piano, is an essential piece in the chamber repertoire for these two instruments. The programme is completed with works by two composers: the American Amy Beach, one of the most highly acclaimed composers of recent years, and the young British composer Dani Howard (1993), who has written a new work specially for Lloyd, jointly co-commissioned by L’Auditori, the Barbican in London and the Konserthuset in Stockholm.
