Programme

Enrique Granados’ Three Spanish Dances, originally for piano, can be heard in the orchestral version written by Joan Lamote de Grignon in 1933. In this concert, the charismatic Silvia Pérez Cruz will perform a work for symphony orchestra written this year by Feliu Gasull, the Catalan guitarist and composer who received the Ciutat de Barcelona Prize in 1991.

The currents of the sea and their inexplicable magnetism, can be sensed in Les Illes Medes, composed by Juli Garreta in 1923. Another work related to the sea is Claude Debussy’s La mer, which dates fromthe first decade of the 20th century. In this piece the unfathomable ebb and flow of the sea reach the listener’s ear in the form of sound vibrations, described by some as an outstanding example of orchestral Impressionism.
