Programme
The concert opens with the symphonic work of Franz Joseph Haydn. Written in 1763, this light, colourful work is a delicately balanced composition demonstrating a range of contrasting moods.
This performance of Maurice Ravel’s Violin Sonata, orchestrated by Yan Maresz, features violinist Renaud Capuçon, who is very familiar with this work, performing with the Barcelona Symphony Orchestra. Capuçon will also play Beethoven’s Second Romance for Violin, considered the precursor of his popular concerto. Mozart’s last symphony, completed in 1788, was the culmination of an iconic triptych. Although “Jupiter” was not the composer’s name for the work, it reflects its great dimensions and, above all, its spirit. Powerful from the opening movement to the molto allegro fugue, it seems to stretch into infinity.
