Programme
Although La valse was initially conceived as a symphonic poem paying tribute to Johann Strauss, the work evolved into a piece for the stage, in which masses of sound interact with a delightful cadence. The final version, completed in 1920, was rejected by Diaghilev because he did not consider it a ballet.
A new work by Swedish composer Lisa Streich will be premiered at L’Auditori: Elle est belle et elle rit, a piece that takes a bright, positive approach to the theme.
The concert will conclude with a work that evokes the immensity of Nordic nature. Sibelius’s Fifth Symphony, one of his most emotive and spectacular, arouses admiration for the sublime harmony of its parts, coming together as a benevolent force, but with a violent finale.
