Programme
Eduard Toldrà’s sardana Sol ixent opens an exciting concert with a wealth of contrasts. First performed in 1922, highly acclaimed and recorded on many occasions, it begins with woodwind solos performed on the genre’s most characteristic instruments.
It will be followed by the five pieces in the children’s suite Ma mère l’oye (Mother Goose) composed by Maurice Ravel between 1908 and 1910. Originally written as a piano duet, the orchestrated version adds nuances that reflect the narrative of each of the movements, inspired by popular tales.
Composed between 1804 and 1805, Beethoven’s revolutionary Fifth Symphony was conceived as a struggle of the individual with destiny. The dramatic opening develops into a powerful musical discourse, leading to a triumphant finale.
