Programme
Starting life as a duo, and occasional trio, hanging around the rehearsal room just playing for the sake of playing, The Necks are now one of the world’s cult improvising trios with a career spanning more than thirty years. Pianist and organist Chris Abrahams, drummer Tony Buck and bassist Lloyd Swanton are experts in weaving long improvised pieces based on repetition to create a trance effect. Almost static landscapes that are transformed by small, subtle variations on the motifs of music inspired equally by jazz, rock and minimalism. A style encompassing a whole host of genres and yet not conforming to a single one. Each first note is the seed of a long sensory journey.
