Mariam Rezaei, turntable
Programme
Mariam Rezaei is an English electronic composer and artist who regularly works with turntables. Unlike traditional DJs, who mix songs that already exist on vinyl, Rezaei uses turntables to generate all kinds of complex rhythmic patterns and sounds. Her technique is quite out of the ordinary: changes of direction, movement and equalisation occur at great speed and with the utmost precision, creating pieces of enormous virtuosity.
She skilfully produces music in a range of genres including noise, IDM, experimental technoand free jazz, with influences such as Roscoe Mitchell and Peter Brötzmann.
